Simone joined our team at Joy Opens Doors in March of 2021. She graduated from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) in 2017 with a Master of Arts degree in Communication Disorders. She moved to the Bay Area from Los Angeles in 2019, and she enjoys the weather, people, and natural beauty of the area. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, music, and creative cooking projects.
Simone has worked with special needs children and adults for more than 12 years, as an in-home and school-based behavior therapist prior to becoming a speech-language pathologist. As a school-based SLP, she has worked with many students and a broad range of needs. She has received extensive training in the Social Thinking curriculum, as well as in AAC assessment and implementation of AAC systems as part of total communication strategies. She is happiest when working on collaborative art projects during speech therapy sessions, and she has saved a huge collection of student artwork from over the years!
